We
have used these bassinets for the past 3 months when we travel, so have
used them for about 10 nights of sleep. Our babies are 3 months old,
about 12 pounds. We swaddle them so they don't move around that much,
but they still had the bassinet pad come loose enough to get twisted
over one of my sons faces in the middle of the night (each have their
own bassinet they are not sharing). The pad of this bassinet is CHEAP.
It is held onto the bassinet loosely with 2 small pieces of Velcro. If
you wash the pad (even following the directions) the pad shrinks and
creates gaps between the pad and the side of the bassinet. The pad
loosens with washing, allowing it to become twisted over your baby's
head from minimal moving in the middle of the night. I'm throwing these
straight in the trash.
I
wish I would have ordered this first! I went with the rock n play,
since everyone I knew had one and loved it. My baby has slept through
the night since 3 weeks old and I was nervous to switch it up. But at 9
weeks her head was already beginning to flatten with rnp. That's why I
bought this. It's perfect! Perfect height for bed, perfect size for her
(she was 12lbs 24in at 8 weeks). She is now 14 weeks old and rolling
over in it and I still feel safe. The only thing I don't care for is the
mirror. I wish it detached. She moves so much she hits it with her
hands. I just lay her head on the opposite end and it's usually ok.
We
have used this bassinet for less than three months and have washed the
pad three times exactly according to the washing instructions and now
the pad does not fit snugly in the bottom of the bassinet. It has shrunk
and curled up around the edges so that the baby could easily pull it
over her face. The size and aesthetic are nice, though I wouldn't
consider it overly portable. It folds flat and can move from room to
room in the house easily, but it's not exactly small when it folds, so
it's not the best bassinet for travel purposes. But my primary complaint
is that the pad no longer fits the bottom and is now a safety hazard,
so we will have to get a new bassinet for the remainder of the time we
want her to sleep in our room. I would not recommend this item.
Originally
my daughter was sleeping in the regular rock and play which caused her
head to become flat because she could not turn her head from side to
side. When I saw that they had a flat rock and play, I decided to try it
out. This thing is AMAZING! It was such an easy transition and my
daughter sleeps 10+ hours straight. I love that it goes up to 25 pounds
so she can sleep in my room longer. I only hand wash the mattress pad
and it has not shrunk on me. After reading other reviews about the pad
shrinking, I decided not to throw it in the washing machine. Regardless,
it hand washes fine and my daughter sleeps in this for every nap and
every night. If you want to prevent a flat head, go with this bassinet
instead of the other rock and play!
i originally had purchased an expensive bassinet (the halo bassinest) in hopes that i could have my infant sleeping closest to me as possible without actually being in the bed. The idea was great, but the surface was much to hard and i didn't get one night of sleep out of it. I then decided to try this product and i couldn't be more pleased! it's soft enough that baby will sleep in it, but not too soft that it is unsafe. love the mirror on the side because i can look at his face without leaning over the bed or getting up on my elbow if i don't want to (i know, lazy...but rest is precious in the very beginning). also, if needed i can sing to him and gently rock the bassinet at whatever rhythm sooths him. It really is a great product & i think the price is great too. Definitely would buy again, but won't have to because i am keeping this for the next little one :)....O also, it collapses really nicely for storage ( i would keep the box it came in so you can store it after baby outgrows)...& super portable. Very easy to move, if you want the baby to nap in the living room or wherever in the house (so you can get some stuff done and still keep an eye on him).
Overall, I like this bassinet. I wanted something small, with breathable sides, and affordable and got it with this. That said, I wish Fisher Price was sell extra pads for it as I can’t put the baby in the bassinet while I’m washing the one provided. I’m also hoping this bassinet will last through several children. What do I do when the pad wears out? It seems a waste to buy a new bassinet just because the pad is worn out. I’m considering making a quilted pad to fit cut to the right size with Velcro on the back to secure it to the platform. I shouldn’t have to do that, though. Another criticism of this bassinet is that the rocking is not smoothe at all. It actually just jostled the baby when he was a new born. We just disable the rocking feature. Overall, an affordable and safe choice.
